Public Process
CNU New England supports a method of public participation known as the charrette. Many design professionals use the term charrette to describe any public meeting that involves open dialogue with the public. CNU New England, however, offers the full charrette process, which involves months of preparation, meetings with key stakeholders and a 5-7 day series of workshops , with intensive interaction between urban designers and the community. This process results in a final specific plan for the project that is championed by a large constituency. This process builds significant public support and trust by allowing people to be directly involved in the design process, in contrast to the conventional design and present standard. This is a process that has been successfully employed across the country and as close as Providence and Fenway Park.
