Transportation Planner/Senior Transportation Planner
Regional planning agency serving the 32 municipalities of Berkshire County in western Massachusetts seeks creative, self-motivated individual for entry level transportation planning position. BRPC is seeking a generalist planner with a strong interest in the transportation/land use connection.
Responsibilities include the following:
providing information and technical assistance to local officials and planning organizations taking lead in promotion and implementation of corridor access management techniques taking lead as coordinator of County-wide bike/pedestrian efforts working with other planners in preparing transportation elements of local and regional plans completing administrative functions of transportation planning contract participating in preparation of transportation studies and plans coordinating public participation and outreach assisting in development and implementation of transportation work program accessing, maintaining and analyzing databases on traffic volumes, crashes, census data and other topics preparing comments on transportation impacts of development proposals during summer months only, supervising interns and their work effort, including traffic counts and pavement condition surveys
The successful candidate will have coursework and/or experience in - and/or aptitude for - planning activities and studies, public participation, report preparation and general planning-related skills. Master's degree is preferred but Bachelor's degree in planning or related field from an accredited college or university with two year related experience is acceptable.
Candidates with two years of relevant experience - in transportation planning- and a master's degree would qualify for senior planner status. Each candidates is asked to specify on his/her cover letter the level at which he/she is applying (i.e. Transportation Planner or Senior Transportation Planner)
General skills required include ability to effectively communicate with local officials in BRPC member communities as well as state and federal officials, an ability to work in a team environment (with teams being both within BRPC staff and with other organizations), strong analytical capabilities, ability to manage varied and complex data sets, computer proficiency, and good organization skills. The starting salary range, depending on qualifications, is $33,600 - $39,900 for master's degree or directly applicable professional experience for the Planner level. If filled at the Senior Planner level, the starting salary range is $40,500 - $49,150. Merit-based increases are awarded annually. A very competitive benefits package is provided.
