CNU New England
The Congress for the New Urbanism, New England Chapter is now planning its second annual conference and members meeting to continue the momentum from CNU XIV: Developing the New Urbanism held in Providence in June. We want to hear from you to ensure that the 2007 Chapter conference includes the best ideas and the brightest examples of New Urbanism as they relate to the New England context.
Developing the New Urbanism II: the New England Perspective
New Urbanism has arrived in New England. Or was it born here? In the US, there are few areas that rival New England’s traditional, organic towns, vibrant urban neighborhoods, quintessential greens and commons, and classic main streets. As we move towards a tipping point with the recent focus on Smart Growth and transit oriented development, how do we ensure that local design and implementation is executed well and respects the New England context? And how do we protect the sometimes neglected infrastructures of our original town centers?
We now seek your suggestions for sessions, speakers and case studies that explore innovative and effective methods for implementing New Urbanism in New England.
Please nominate session themes and send names of mentors, clients, and colleagues who have compelling perspectives to share. Please suggest topics that apply directly to important issues and projects as they relate to where you live and practice. This year, we will be focusing on developers and implementation, and will also be seeking innovative or unique topics (projects, case studies, outreach programs, codes) and session formats (critiques, debates, hands-on workshops, urban laboratories).
Though we cannot include every speaker and idea, we will consider each suggestion carefully. We greatly appreciate your contribution of time and effort on behalf of the program.
To propose a session, please download the form from www.cnunewengland.org and follow the instructions. Direct any questions to George Proakis, Conference Program co-chair, at gproakis@cnunewengland.org.
