Next Generation CNUThe Next Generation of the New Urbanism (NGNU) was formed in June 2003 by a group of young professionals who realized the need for individuals just entering their careers to organize and facilitate efforts to further the goals of the New Urbanism. Under the leadership of Brian Wright from DPZ, a national list serve was established and a "Manifesto" outlining the intentions of the NGNU was released (see Manifesto of NGNU). The national list serve has already drawn more than 150 participants from around the U.S. and the world, representing a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. Members include traffic and civil engineers, journalists, architects, planners, lawyers, professors, developers, smart growth advocates and individuals from a variety of other backgrounds. Local chapters of the NGNU have also been formed in D.C. and Boston. For more information on the Next Generation, visit the website at www.cnunextgen.org. Next Generation of the New Urbanism – BostonThe Boston area chapter of the Next Generation for the New Urbanism was established to more effectively foster change and promote the Charter of the New Urbanism at the regional and local level. Since its conception, the Boston NGNU has successfully expanded its membership and focused on a proactive set of goals to help bring NU into the public eye. In March 2004, the Boston NGNU successfully led the formation of the New England Chapter of the CNU, the second chatper under the umbrella of the national organization. Members of the Boston NGNU planned and held the inaugural event of the New England Chapter, Revisiting Traditional Neighborhood Design, a debate on New Urbanism in New England, attended by over 120 people from across the region. Other events have included an architectural walking tour of Mashpee Commons, one of the only traditional new town centers constructed in New England based on the principles of New Urbanism, and the first Visioning Meeting for the New England Chapter. The Boston NGNU has established a local list serve for focused discussion of local issues and event planning. To join the list serve please contact mail@cnunewengland.org.
